It's important to understand sizing assumptions, as the actual usable space depends upon RAID formatting, file system overhead, and space used by indices. On top of this, the amount of additional space optimization gained from email and attachment de-duplication depends highly on the email traffic. In the below example, the RazorSafe 150 will last approximately 7 years and 10 months. Mirapoint's technical account team can assist you in finding the appliance model to fit your retention needs.
- Calculate Client's Usage Rate
- Client's mail server has 250 users
- An average user gets 140 emails per day
- Average email size is 25KB(0.0000238 GB)
- This client will use (users * emails per day * email size bytes * 0.30 compression&de-duplication factor * 365 days/year), or 91 GB of storage per year
- Calculate Storage Available for Emails
- Total storage space = 1,000 GB
- OS/filesystem overhead = 11% or 110 GB
- Available storage from factory = total - overhead = 890 GB
- 20% of each RazorSafe is dedicated to DB entries and message indexing
- Truly available storage = storage from factory - message indexing or 712 GB
- Calculate Time Until Machine is Full
- (available storage / storage per year) = 7.792 years or 7 years 10 months until full
