MIRAPOINT PROVIDES EMAIL PROTECTION FOR MORE THAN 26,000 USERS AT CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY
RazorGate Email Security Appliances Prevent Students, Staff and Faculty from Being Disrupted by Spam and Viruses

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 9, 2004—Mirapoint® today announced that Case Western Reserve University has deployed Mirapoint's RazorGate 450 appliances to secure email for more than 26,000 students, faculty, and staff on the university's campus in Cleveland, Ohio. Working with one of Mirapoint's reseller partners, The Newman Group, Case Information Technology Services (ITS) staff chose Mirapoint to protect their network for the ease–of–use and proven reliability of its email security solutions. The RazorGate appliance's per–user spam control and quarantine features provided the blend of email security functionality and individual management tools that the university required.

“With the SoBig virus, we had to employ three full–time engineers working around the clock to fix the problem,” said Tony Kramar, application development manager at Case ITS. “With RazorGate, we are able to eliminate costly overhead expenses that we've incurred in the past fighting viruses and spam. Users appreciate the per–user spam controls that allow them to set email screening parameters to fit their personal needs. As a result, we have received positive feedback from both faculty and staff who have noticed a dramatic decrease in the amount of spam they receive.”

Case has deployed RazorGate appliances for virus filtering and spam control. RazorGate complements the existing SunOne email system and also provides a multi–layered security approach to protect against hackers, spam, and virus threats. RazorGate also offers per–user controls that allow each user to tailor their own security rules, such as filter priorities or message–handling options. For campus–wide users, Mirapoint's multi–layered approach to email filtering will automatically delete any piece of email containing a virus before it ever reaches a user's inbox.
