Sonic Drive-In Orders Up Email and Calendar Services from
Mirapoint
Web-based Email and Calendar Solution Connects Sonic's PartnerNet
Users
SUNNYVALE, Calif., October 15, 2002 — Mirapoint, a leading
provider of Internet messaging systems, announced today that Sonic
Drive-Ins. (Nasdaq/NM: SONC), operator and franchiser of the nation's
largest chain of drive-in restaurants, has selected the Mirapoint
messaging platform for email and calendaring services for its new
Sonic PartnerNet portal. This portal provides corporate and franchise
drive-in operators with easy access to powerful communications tools,
sales data reporting functions, franchise group communications and
support resources such as online training materials.
Mirapoint worked with Sonic Drive-Ins to develop a Sonic-branded,
web-based email and calendaring solution for Sonic's PartnerNet
portal. Sonic operators that have joined the PartnerNet system will
be able to access special email distribution lists featuring other
PartnerNet members. They will also be able to keep track of their
events using personal and business calendar options.
"We were looking for a vendor that could deliver a reliable,
easy-to-manage and high-performance messaging product that would
enhance the communication capabilities of our PartnerNet site,"
said Mitch Gregory, IT vice president of information services for
Sonic Drive-Ins. "Mirapoint offered a complete email and calendar
solution that integrated seamlessly with our other PartnerNet resources.
Our new web email interface is user-friendly and was easily branded
to match the look and feel of PartnerNet."
All PartnerNet program participants will be able to take advantage
of Mirapoint's email and calendar services on the portal. Sonic's
goal is to market this service to all 2,500 drive-ins in 30 states.
"Our work with Sonic Drive-Ins is an example of how Mirapoint's
products can be deployed in the extended enterprise, where cost,
web-access and branding is important," said Bill Messer, senior
vice president, Worldwide Sales and Customer Services at Mirapoint.
"In this case, Sonic used Microsoft Exchange internally, but
realized that this was not cost-effective or valuable for a partner
extranet. They chose Mirapoint because just two of our systems are
enough to support a broad range of users with integrated web mail
and related web-based application access."
PartnerNet, launched in September 2002, is a portal featuring bundled
services for Sonic operators that include satellite connectivity,
corporate communications and management tools, web-based email and
calendar, interactive online training classes and Sonic Live Radio.
