RCE Student Performance Objectives

Module 1 – Introduction

  • Describe the function and purpose of the RazorGate system.
  • Know the maximum number of users supported on the RazorGate system.
  • Describe the security measures performed on email passing through the RazorGate system.
  • Know the placement of the RazorGate system within a networking infrastructure.

Module 2 – System Components, Interfaces & Licenses

  • List the system software components, which make up a RazorGate system.
  • List the administration interfaces, which are accessible on a RazorGate system.
  • Describe the licenses available for a RazorGate system.
  • Describe the process to obtain and apply a license key.

Module 3 – Razorgate Accounts

  • Describe the account creation criteria.
  • Know the likely existing accounts present on a RazorGate system.
  • Know the difference between a routable and allowable email address.
  • Describe the meaning of a dot (.) in a username versus an underscore (_) in a username.
  • Know the definition of the Junk Mail Manager.
  • Know how to setup the Junk Mail Manager and how it works.

Module 4 – Distribution List Routing, LDAP Routing & LDIF Routing

  • Describe the definition of distribution list routing, LDAP routing and LDIF routing.
  • Describe why an administrator would implement distribution list routing, LDAP routing and/or LDIF routing.
  • Describe how to configure distribution list routing, LDAP routing and LDIF routing.

Module 5 – Security

  • Understand mail flow as it pertains to the IP, SMTP, Content and Routing Layers.
  • Describe connection rate limiting, UCE and RBL.
  • Describe MailHurdle, relay, recipient check and SMTP authentication.
  • Describe Sophos Anti-Virus, SPAM Assassin, RPD / Rapid Technology and filters.

Module 6 – System Monitoring

  • Describe the monitoring information (Storage, Health & System Alerts), which may be obtained from the RazorGate system.
  • Describe the logs/reports (Mail, Logins, Security, System, Commands, Folders, User/Admin Audit Trail), which may be obtained from the RazorGate system.
  • Describe the performance moving graphs (Mail, POP/IMAP, Webmail, Junk Mail, Directory, Miscellaneous, External, Disk, Network & CPU), which may be viewed on the RazorGate system.

Module 7 – Troubleshooting, Maintenance & Updates

  • Describe the commands needed to troubleshoot network connectivity to a system.
  • Describe the commands needed to troubleshoot DNS information.
  • Describe what information is needed and how to obtain it when contacting “Customer Support”.
  • Describe how to install an update on a RazorGate system.
  • Describe how to import/export configuration data to/from a RazorGate system.

Module 8 – Setup Wizard

  • Describe how to initially setup a RazorGate system as an inbound and/or outbound message router.

Student Profile and Prerequisites
It is recommended that the student have some experience working with UNIX, e-mail and message servers.
